History of Ballykeefe Distillery

Ballykeefe Distillery was founded by Morgan Ging in 2017. Located in the scenic countryside of County Kilkenny, Ireland, Ballykeefe was established with a vision to revive a 200-year-old tradition of on-farm distillation, producing premium spirits with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Sustainable Practices

From its inception, Ballykeefe Distillery has been committed to sustainability. The distillery operates as a single estate, where the grain used in production is grown on-site, and by-products from the distillation process are used to feed livestock.

This eco-friendly approach has earned Ballykeefe several awards, including third place in sustainability at the 2018 Irish Food and Drink Business Awards and the Environmental Award at the 2018 Kilkenny Chamber Business Awards.

Flask & Barrel Review of Ballykeefe Distillery

Ballykeefe Distillery is an absolute gem! As a whiskey collector, I’ve toured my fair share of distilleries, but Ballykeefe stands out. Right from the start, the staff made me feel like part of the family. The passion they have for their craft is infectious, and it shows in every aspect of the tour.

The tour itself was fantastic. We got to see the entire process, from the grains being milled to the final product being bottled. What I loved most was the personal touch. Our guide was super knowledgeable and answered all my nerdy whiskey questions with enthusiasm. It’s clear that they take great pride in their work, and it really made the experience special.

And then, of course, there’s the whiskey. Oh man, the whiskey! The tasting session at the end of the tour was a highlight. Each sample was unique and delicious, showcasing the distillery’s dedication to quality. My personal favorite was their single pot still whiskey – smooth, rich, and full of character.

The only reason I’m not giving a perfect score is that the tour could have been a bit longer. I was so engrossed that I didn’t want it to end! But that’s a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things.
