History of Glendullan Distillery

 

The Glendullan Distillery, located in Dufftown, Scotland, in the Speyside region, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1897 by William Williams, an Aberdeen blender and broker.

This single malt Scotch whisky distillery is currently owned by Diageo. The distillery’s water source is the Goats Well Spring, and it boasts a production capacity of 3,700,000 liters, facilitated by three wash stills and three spirit stills.

In terms of its offerings, Glendullan produces a range of whiskies, including a Twelve Years Old variant and a Rare and Fine Malts-Twenty-Three Years Distilled in 1974.

Mergers and Expansion of Glendullan Distillery

The Glendullan distillery has been part of several mergers and expansions throughout its history. In 1925, Williams merged with Greenlees Brothers and was absorbed within The Distillers Company.

A significant development occurred in 1972 with the construction of a second distillery next to the original, which operated until the original plant’s closure in 1985.

The distillery underwent another major change in 1997 when Guinness plc (The Distillers Company owner) merged with Grand Metropolitan, making Glendullan a part of the newly formed company, Diageo.

Modern Releases from Glendullan Distillery

Glendullan’s output is primarily used within Diageo’s blended whisky world. However, it has seen a few official releases over the years, including a 12-year-old as part of the discontinued Flora and Fauna range.

The 2023 Singleton series from Diageo features 12, 15, and 18-year-old Glendullan whiskies, showcasing the distillery’s diverse and quality offerings.
