History of Reservoir Distillery

Reservoir Distillery, nestled in the heart of Richmond, Virginia, stands as a proud testament to the revival of bourbon distillation post-Prohibition.

As the third distillery outside of Kentucky to distil and release bourbon after this era, Reservoir has not just made whiskey; it has crafted a narrative, answering the profound question: “What does Virginia taste like?” The answer, as they fondly say, is “Pretty damn good.”

The Heartbeat of Reservoir

The distillery is not just about the spirits; it’s about the people who pour their passion into every bottle.

The team, led by founder Dave Cuttino, includes talents like Mary Allison, the Head Distiller, Nick Vaughan, the Barrelman, Shelley Sackier, the Director of Distillery Education, Rachel Bolling, the Events Coordinator, and Dylan McMahon, a Distiller, with Owen Parrish assisting in barrel management.

A Commitment to Local Excellence

Reservoir Distillery’s love for Virginia is evident in every aspect of its operation. From the local farmers who provide the grains to the trees that become barrels and the climate that perfects the aging process, every element is a tribute to the state’s natural bounty.

The distillery’s location at 1800 A Summit Avenue is more than an address; it’s a landmark where the essence of Virginia is distilled into spirits that resonate with character and quality.

Flask & Barrel Review of Reservoir Distillery

The moment I stepped into their newly renovated space, I knew I was in for something special. The vibe was just right – welcoming and laid-back, but with a serious dedication to the craft that you could feel in the air.

Their tasting hours were super convenient, making it easy to pop in for a quick sip or linger a little longer.

Now, about the whiskey – it was top-notch. Each spirit I tasted had its own unique character, a testament to the care and passion that goes into every bottle. The staff were knowledgeable and passionate, ready to share the stories behind each blend, which really added to the experience.

If I had to nitpick, I’d say I wished the tasting room was a bit larger to really soak in the ambiance.

But honestly, at a 4.7 out of 5, it’s a must-visit for anyone who appreciates finely crafted spirits. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting to explore the world of whiskey, Reservoir Distillery is the place to be. Cheers to a fantastic experience!
